All work is guaranteed against manufacturing defects and materials failure that could occur during normal use such as match shooting, police work, or personal defense. This does not include abuse of a weapon or weapon parts for purposes for which they are not intended. BMG, LLC will repair or replace said defective products in the event of a product failure.

What You Get for Your Money
Black Materials Group, LLC (BMG, LLC) selects the best raw materials available on the market today. Many of the titanium, stainless steel, and composite fabrics and materials are used in the aerospace industry. We purchase composite tubing from fabrication companies that produce parts for defense contractors. We also use perishable CNC tooling produced by the best manufacturers. We avoid purchasing anything from China. There are many opinions on who makes the best gun barrel blanks. We will always recommend the top 4-5 manufacturers. They may include Lilja, Shilen, Obermeyer, Schneider, Mike Rock, and Kreiger. This choice will usually be made by the customer. Otherwise, you can expect the best of the best OEM manufacturers for any weapon configured by BMG, LLC.

For those potential customers that feel our labor charges are inflated, please consider that when doing general machine tool work, you can simply scrap a part and get a new block of material on which to start. Not so with custom firearms work. We treat each weapon that we handle as our own family heirloom, as are all weapons. Thus, we are careful with the work we do on your custom gun. We double and triple check measurements before cutting metal, take special care not to mar finishes, and clean and lubricate all weapons we service. You will receive your weapon in the condition to go directly to the range for your own test-fire session.

Custom Weapon Modifications
Much of the work currently done by Black Materials Group, LLC is custom modifications of existing weapons and/or production of totally new gun parts and complete weapons. While many “OEM” or “Off-the-Shelf” parts are used, permanent modifications are often carried out on these parts. This will usually void the factory warranty on these parts. Black Materials will thus be the party responsible for service for these part(s) into the future.

For some custom work, such as the assembly of a full-house custom rifle, the customer will be asked to pay initially for the parts needed to assemble the weapon, including the barrel. The customer will only be billed for work done after the work is completed and the weapon functions properly. Custom work with extensive machine tool setup or raw materials costs may result in the customer being asked to pay a portion of these costs, approx. 25%, before any work can begin.

Ammunition
Due to variations in the quality of hand loads and the skill of the loader, Black Materials Group, LLC does not approve of the use of hand loads in its custom rifles. It is essentially impossible to determine the cause of materials failure with such large variables as the ammunition internal pressure and the number of times the barrel or receiver was subjected to abnormally high pressures. These materials facts are difficult to accurately quantify in the event of a critical failure. Thus, BMG, LLC cannot guarantee their rifles when used with reloads.

Accuracy Guarantee
Black Materials can only guarantee accuracy if the weapon was assembled in our own shop, including our choice of barrel, bedding method, ammunition choice, carbon stiffening tube, and range conditions. We will generally guarantee accuracy for a weapon for which the barrel has been specified by the customer, as long as the manufacturer is the top four-to-five manufacturers. The accuracy guarantee will be demonstrated with a test target with range and ammunition specified.

Many people ask if graphite composite reinforced rifle barrels shoot as good or better than all- steel barrels. Generally, the composite barrel will have the same accuracy as the all-steel barrel for approx. one to two pounds reduction. But when specifying a weapon for repeated heavy shooting, involving frequent and/or prolonged heat up (example: full-auto weapons), graphite is not the best choice. The reduced mass of metal, surrounded by the graphite tube, results in faster initial heat up. The graphite material does not retain the heat, but eventually, the heating of the metal inner liner changes the tension of the overall system, affecting the vibrational harmonics of the system, adversely effecting accuracy. Thus, graphite reinforced barrels are best for tactical or hunting weapons that will be carried more than being shot.

Glue Bond and Weld Failure
Black Materials Group, LLC uses the best welding equipment and supplies available for fabricating metal structures. When graphite composites interface with metal, industrial-strength, military-specification epoxy is used. Regardless of the quality of materials, this joint is a likely place for structural failure. Black Materials Group, LLC will repair or replace the part(s) in question, requiring a written statement of the circumstances of failure.

Shipping/Shipping Insurance
When shipping weapons or material over $100.00, Black Materials Group, LLC will purchase insurance for replacement value of the shipped item. We have had the misfortune of having weapons damaged in the mail and believe postal insurance is a must. BMG, LLC uses lots of padding and sturdy boxes, which cost money. Please realize that any shipping surcharge is money well spent.

Part Guarantee
Occasionally a customer will specify a custom-installed part for a custom weapon, for which BMG, LLC does not approve of due to quality or materials. Black Materials Group, LLC reserves the right to refuse to guarantee any part for any reason. This refusal is usually due to questionable quality of the part. This will be discussed with the customer before final purchase order is placed and be stated in writing on the final invoice to the customer.

Political Statement/Refusal of Sale
Please appreciate the fact that the United States of America is one of the only countries that allows the cottage industry of gunsmithing to operate largely outside of government control. Weapons are special because they ensure both the beautiful condition of societal and personal freedom, but also facilitate ugly, unlawful actions by criminals. Because of the special nature of weapons, Black Materials Group, LLC reserves the right to refuse sale to any individual for any reason. BMG, LLC complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to weapon sales, with no exceptions.

Thank you sincerely for your gunsmithing business. As stated above, Black Materials Group will always treat your weapon with the same care we show to our personal weapons.
